Speech Therapy for Children: Serving the Slidell, LA Community
Our Pediatric Speech Therapy Services
-
We’ll start with an evaluation to learn more about your child’s strengths, interests, and communication challenges. This allows us to create an individualized speech therapy plan!
At Flourish Speech Solutions, our evaluations typically include:
A parent interview to discuss concerns and goals
A formal speech and language assessment
An observation of how your child naturally communicates at home, in the classroom, or with friend
You will receive a written report, recommendations, and explanation from the therapist regarding the evaluation results.
-
Speech therapy helps your child develop clearer, more precise speech so they can be understood more easily. We’ll use hands-on activities, visuals, and step-by-step practice to master sounds in words, sentences, and everyday conversation.
Speech therapy will help your child:
Clearly share their thoughts, feelings, and ideas
Produce all age-appropriate sounds
Feel less frustrated or self-conscious
Confidently participate in school and social activities
-
Language helps children understand, express, and connect with the world around them. We use play, conversation, books, and meaningful activities to build the specific skills your child needs to flourish.
Language therapy will help your child:
Express wants, needs, ideas, interests, and feelings
Use more complex vocabulary and sentences
Ask/answer questions and follow directions
Read, comprehend, and learn in school
-
Every child’s social communication needs are different, so therapy is individualized to the situations your child finds challenging. Through role-playing practice and real-life scenarios, we’ll support your child’s ability to form authentic relationships.
Social skills therapy will help your child:
Confidently socialize with other kids and adults
Understand and respond to greetings, conversations, non-verbal cues, and emotional situations
Take others’ perspectives
Learn about personal space and social boundaries
Children with Autism, Anxiety, ADHD, learning challenges, and developmental delays often benefit from breaking social interactions down, step-by-step.
-
Stuttering isn’t “bad”— it’s a form of verbal diversity! That’s why our stuttering therapy sessions focus on helping your child accept their stutter, speak easier, and communicate with confidence.
Fluency therapy will help your child:
Minimize negative reactions to stuttering
Communicate with greater ease and confidence
Reduce avoidance of speaking situations
Advocate for themselves as a person who stutters
We’ll also help YOU understand your child’s stutter and feel confident about how to support them outside of stuttering therapy.
-
Every child deserves a reliable way to communicate, even if it’s not through speech. We’ll help your child use signs, pictures, or a speech-generating device to express themselves while coaching the important adults in their life to support communication throughout the day.
AAC therapy will help your child:
Share their wants, needs, feelings, ideas, and preferences
Functionally use words to express themselves
Initiate interactions, ask and answer questions, and participate in conversations
Gain independence at home, school, and in the community
*Wondering what AAC means? It’s an acronym that stands for Alternative and Augmentative Communication—or, the use of any system that supports or replaces speech!
Meet Your Speech Therapist
Ashley Talley, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
Hi, I’m Ashley! I’m a pediatric speech therapist with more than 10 years of experience working with children, teens, and families. I’m also a mom, so I know firsthand how difficult it can feel to find the right support for your child. Advocating for my own child’s right to communicate has shaped the way I practice and deepened my commitment to making sure every child feels heard, understood, and valued as they are.
I created Flourish Speech Solutions to provide families in the Northshore community with thoughtful, individualized support. I love joining a child in their world and finding creative ways to turn their interests into opportunities for growth. I’ll always listen to your family’s goals, respect what makes your child unique, and make space for your family’s culture and values. For me, there is nothing more rewarding than watching a child gain confidence, discover their strengths, and flourish as a communicator!
Parent Consultation Services
I also offer parent consultation services for families seeking a second opinion, professional guidance, or support with special education decisions. From evaluations to dismissal of services, I help parents understand educational reports, navigate their rights, advocate for their child, and create a clear plan for moving forward. Frequently Asked Questions About Speech Therapy
-
Yes, your child can still receive speech therapy services privately if the comprehensive evaluation deems therapy necessary and beneficial for your child.
-
Speech therapy can most definitely be done online. Teletherapy is evidence-based and is effective for treatment of speech and language delays/disorders. If location is a barrier, many times teletherapy is recommended so children can still receive the speech therapy services they need.
-
No, you did not cause your child's speech delay. Environment as well as caregivers' communication and interaction play a large role in speech/language development. However, it is not your fault that your child demonstrates a speech delay.
-
It depends. A normal amount of dysfluency is typical when learning language during the preschool years. Some preschoolers will naturally recover from stuttering without direct intervention.
However, certain risk factors such as already having a speech/language delay or disorder, genetic predisposition, gender at birth (males are more likely to stutter), and the type and severity of stuttering all play a role in whether stuttering will persist.
-
Yes, it is normal for young children to mispronounce certain sounds.
Speech is complex, and children mispronounce sounds to simplify adult speech as they learn the motor movements for different speech sounds.
Certain sounds like /r, l, th, s/ and blends typically take longer to develop.
If you or other familiar people are having a hard time understanding your child, speech therapy may be needed.
